Kermit Lynch Wine Merchants
An island for Marin Country Mart, California
Created for the new Kermit Lynch Wine Merchants store at Marin Country Mart in California, this bespoke island was designed as both a functional workspace and a welcoming place for customers to gather and sample new wines. Developed in collaboration with Martha Mulholland Interior Design, the piece forms the centre of the retail space, inviting visitors to pause, taste and engage with the craftsmanship behind every bottle.
The island was conceived with curved ends, creating an elegant communal table where guests can comfortably sample wines while preserving the clean, architectural language of the overall design. Finished in a rich burgundy hue, the cabinetry subtly references the deep tones of the celebrated red wines of Burgundy, bringing warmth and character to the interior.
Handcrafted in England using traditional furniture-making techniques, the island reflects Huckleberry’s commitment to enduring quality and meticulous craftsmanship. Every detail, from the carefully proportioned joinery to the flawless painted finish, was designed to withstand the demands of a busy retail environment while retaining the character of a finely crafted piece of furniture.
Although designed and made in the South West of England, the project demonstrates the ease with which Huckleberry’s furniture can be delivered internationally. Carefully prepared for export and shipped to California, the island arrived ready for installation, allowing British craftsmanship to become part of a distinctly Californian setting.
The collaboration brings together thoughtful design, exceptional materials and traditional craftsmanship, resulting in a piece that feels entirely at home within the refined surroundings of Marin Country Mart. It is both a working island and a place for conversation where customers can gather, share stories and experience the wines of Kermit Lynch in an environment designed with the same care and attention as the collections it showcases.
