Marchmead House
A Contemporary outdoor kitchen in Kent

Set within the landscape of a large country garden in Kent, this bespoke outdoor kitchen occupies a purpose-built green oak and brick garden structure with far-reaching views across the surrounding hills. Next to the swimming pool and outdoor dining area, it creates a sheltered space for cooking and entertaining while remaining closely connected to the garden beyond.

Handcrafted in Huckleberry’s Contemporary style, the kitchen pairs clean architectural lines with a palette of natural materials. Green oak framing, traditional brickwork and woven wattle hurdle panels lend warmth and texture. A Huckleberry 'Kilifi' bar table, finished with a Dekton Grigio top, forms the social heart of the space, encouraging guests to gather around the cook rather than apart from them.

The brief centred on creating a relaxed, highly functional entertaining space. A Big Green Egg sits alongside generous preparation areas, extensive cupboard storage and twin fridges, giving ample room for chilled drinks, serving platters and everything needed to host family and friends throughout the seasons.

Every element has been designed with longevity in mind. Precision joinery, carefully selected materials and considered detailing ensure the kitchen performs beautifully in an outdoor environment while ageing with character over time. The combination of oak, brick and stone creates a timeless composition that feels rooted in its setting rather than imposed upon it.

Surrounded by the rolling countryside of the Garden of England, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design, enduring craftsmanship and exceptional materials can transform an outdoor space into a place that is as inviting for everyday family life as it is for long summer evenings spent entertaining.
