The Old Rectory
An L-Shape Outdoor Kitchen for a Mediterranean-style terrace
Tucked within the walled gardens of an historic Northamptonshire rectory, this bespoke outdoor kitchen was conceived as a natural extension of the home and garden. Positioned in a Mediterranean-inspired terrace, swimming pool and outdoor dining space, it forms the centrepiece of an outdoor room designed for long lunches, family gatherings and relaxed summer entertaining.
Handcrafted in Huckleberry’s Classic style, the kitchen is built from solid oak using traditional joinery techniques that celebrate the integrity of the material. The warm tones of the timber sit comfortably against the surrounding stone and planting, creating a composition that feels both timeless and entirely at home within its quintessentially English setting.
The brief was to create a highly functional cooking space that encouraged people to gather. A Beefeater grill and Gozney pizza oven anchor the design, while generous preparation areas and thoughtfully integrated storage ensure the kitchen performs as effortlessly during large family barbecues as it does for quieter everyday use.
Every element has been considered with longevity in mind. Solid oak, precision joinery and carefully selected fittings have been chosen not only for their appearance, but for their ability to withstand years of outdoor living while developing character with age. Rather than competing with the architecture of the rectory, the kitchen complements it, its restrained detailing allowing the natural materials and craftsmanship to take centre stage.
Designed for a busy family who spend as much time outdoors as possible, the project reflects Huckleberry’s approach to outdoor living: furniture that is as enduring as the buildings and landscapes it inhabits, crafted to be used, enjoyed and passed down for generations.
